Vale The Brown Bookshop

February 11, 2020 by Jane Stratton

Today, we celebrate The Brown Bookshop and its proud owner, Lorraine Woodhouse. Lorraine bought The Brown Bookshop 15 years ago to this very day  - 11 February. Today, she is closing its doors for the last time. We salute her vision for an independent bookstore, and mourn its closure today. Vale The Brown Bookshop!

Lorraine built a strong community around her store, that we saw in force whenever we visited. Running a close second to the people who run bookshops, its shelves make the space. We are so pleased that a piece of the history of The Brown Bookshop is now with us, along our walls at LOST IN BOOKS. Lorraine gifted us 70 linear metres of shelving and it has made all the difference to our store.

We say thank you to Lorraine, The Brown Bookshop and all its customers. With the closure of another independent bookstore, we repeat our call: "Love your local bookshop!" #LoveYourBookshop

We all need the spaces that bookshops create in our lives and in our communities - we make spaces to connect with the richness of language, interesting people and new ideas, and to flex our cerebral and creative muscles together!  We feed your imaginations but we rely on your curiosity....and your custom.

Our best wishes to Lorraine, her staff and family.
