Top Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Books for NAIDOC Week 2025

July 07, 2025 by Rachel Haywood

Theme: The Next Generation – Strength, Vision & Legacy

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we gather — the lands of the Cabrogal Clan of the Darug Nation. We pay our deepest respects to Elders past and present, and we honour their unbroken connection to land, sky, waters, and culture.

If you do not know, then now is the time to learn.

Whether you are learning about lore, Country, language, or connection, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander authors and illustrators offer an essential foundation for truth-telling, teaching, and understanding. Their stories — passed through oracy, storylines, poetry and prose — challenge the silence of colonisation and restore visibility, knowledge, and pride.

This year’s NAIDOC theme, “The Next Generation – Strength, Vision & Legacy”, invites us to celebrate those who are shaping the future while standing strong in ancestral knowledge. First Peoples literature is one of the most powerful vehicles for this — centring the voices of young leaders, community visionaries, cultural custodians and creators forging paths of healing, resistance and renewal.

At Lost In Books, we are proud to present a curated collection of titles that speak to the theme and beyond. These are books for everyone — educators, young readers, families, truth-tellers and lifelong learners.

To read these stories is to step into a future of strength, shaped by legacy.

Always Was, Always Will Be. 🖤💛❤️

Our Commitment

At Lost In Books, we are proud to support and share the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander storytellers. Their work is essential to truth-telling, education, healing and cultural strength. Whether through children’s stories, poetry, fiction, history, or cultural knowledge, First Peoples authors and illustrators lead us toward deeper understanding.

For too long, the impacts of colonisation have silenced these stories. But through oracy, written storytelling and the resurgence of culture, language and creative expression, we are all invited to listen, to learn, and to stand in solidarity.
