October 13, 2021 by Jane Stratton in LOSTINBOOKS, FEATURED, SCHOOL HOLIDAY, FORKEDTONGUES, MULTILINGUALWRITERS

Zarlasht Sarwari is a PhD candidate in the School of Social Sciences and Psychology at Western Sydney University (WSU). Her research explores Afghan Identities in Australia with a particular focus on negotiation of hybrid identities, transnationalism, nationalism, racism, immigration and multiculturalism. Zarlasht is also a research assistant with the Challenging Racism Project based at WSU and part of the Finishing School Collective for women writers in Western Sydney. She developed Dost’s Journey with Sri Lankan Australian illustrator, Uma Jeyaseelan, with the support of a LOST IN BOOKS In Other Words Residency from 2017.

Drawing from her Afghan cultural perspective, Zarlasht hopes to publish her children’s story for Afghan children here and around the world.
