Lost in books Volunteer Community

August 21, 2020 by Jane Stratton

Welcome Volunteers new and old to our Volunteer Community Page where we keep you updated on the latest opportunities to get involved, take you behind the scenes with Lost in Books and link to recent news, upcoming events and important resources.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

We've been busy reimagining how to make your volunteer experience more connected and meaningful. With many creative events in the works we’ve got some exciting short-term volunteering opportunities coming up. In the long-term we’ll also need regular volunteers to support the work we do both in-store and online. We will keep this page updated as Volunteer Opportunities come up - so watch this space!

Online Volunteer Opportunities

Arabic Translators Needed
Can you read and write in Arabic? Can you translate from English into Arabic? We're looking for volunteers to translate our creative and artistic content so that it can be read and shared with the Arabic speaking community.

Monthly Volunteer Opportunities - SOUND SYSTEM

SOUND SYSTEM is a music performance program and talent incubator to showcase and develop musicians, song-writers and music producers in South Western & Western Sydney. As part of our program, we will be delivering a new online Web Series; a collection of pre-recorded concerts featuring established multilingual musicians and our emerging community of artists.

Production Volunteer - Are you interested in Story-telling and production? We are looking for a volunteer to deliver and host an interview with the Featured Artist of our monthly SOUND SYSTEM episode for a maximum time of 10 minutes as part of the pre-recorded SOUND SYSTEM episode.

Volunteer Story: Meet Nakita

Vol Nakita.jpg

Hello fellow volunteers! I started volunteering at Lost in Books at the end of 2018. I was so excited to learn that I could contribute to a place so connected to my Western Sydney home. I had the good fortune of spending one magical month as retail manager here - I helped host events, systematised our old online book catalogue and was able to meet quite a few of you! These days I love to visit LIB, make myself useful and lend a hand at special events. I have recently started writing a novel about the love that we have for our parents and the weight of their expectations. Needless to say, my dad has recently shared his ‘expectation’ that the book will fund his retirement. We will see about that!

Behind the Scenes

The last few months have looked a little different in the Volunteer Sphere. In July Mary, Sahar, Nicole, Helen, Nakita, Michelle, Mabel, Ginny and Fatma helped in-store moving and organising books onto our new book shelves, Cherry and Laila provided Arabic and Vietnamese translation support to digital inclusion initiative Wester'ly and the wonderful Nga sewed cloth masks for our staff to use.

A big Thank You for supporting Lost in Books!
