On Saturday 10 October 2026, bookshops across Australia will celebrate Love Your Bookshop Day, the annual national campaign from the Australian Booksellers Association celebrating local bookshops, booksellers and the conversations that connect readers with great books.

This year’s theme, Ask a bookseller. Shake up your shelf, is an invitation to step away from the algorithm, talk to someone who knows books, and discover the author, language, story or unexpected favourite you might never have found on your own.

We love that idea. Because at LOST IN BOOKS, discovery can also mean finding a story in the language you speak at home. Encountering a First Nations story. Reading across languages and cultures. Giving a child a book in which they recognise something of themselves. Or simply picking up something you would never normally choose.

So, for Love Your Bookshop Day, we’ve come up with 10 reasons to love LOST IN BOOKS and a collection of books that show you what we mean.
