Episode 9. Sound In Art

On this episode of Table of Plenty, Lili (also known as Okuesha Kills) demonstrates how sound can ultimately work to enhance artworks and enhance the atmosphere of a piece. Sound can be explored in isolation as well as a complimentary element to still and moving works.

Exercise - Make art with sound

What you'll need:

  • USB Microphone (or voice recorder on your mobile phone)

  • Headphones and audio jack Laptop or computer

  • Sound editing/Music Production software or app:

    - GarageBand (iOS)

    - Groovebox (iOS) - Figure (iOS)

    - BandLab (Android/iOS)

    - Suggester (iOS)

    - Beat Maker Go (Android/iOS)

    - n-Track Studio DAW 9 (Android/iOS) - Ableton Live

Use a recording device, gather field recordings and use them (directly or indirectly) to develop a work from. Using any music production software or app, experiment with your sound recording to make loops, reverbs, noise, beats and music. If you play any instruments, record yourself playing a few tunes and experiment with layering music and sound. Put your headphones on and let the music take over! Make art with sound.


Share Your Art and Music

Once you’ve completed the exercise or if you just have something cool to show us, take photos, videos or audio recordings of your art and music. Even better, share it via social media and make sure you tag us @lostinbookssydney or use the hashtag #TofPArtStudio so we can see it.

You can also submit your artwork by emailing to art@lostinbooks.com.au to receive feedback from our artists Huy and Lili, and for a chance to be featured in our online Art gallery.
