Episode 8. Text In Art

September 17, 2020 by Jane Stratton

Language is Art and whether you write in Latin or Roman Alphabet, Arabic, Bengali, Cyrillic, Hiragana or Kanji, we can all agree that the written text is a powerful form of self expression.

On this episode of Table of Plenty, Huy & Lili share how they use 'Text' in their art and design. Tune in and learn how to get creative with typography.

Exercise - Play with Type

Now it’s your turn to get creative with type. Watch the video and follow the activity in the end.

You can use pen and paper or any text based computer program like MS Word or Notepad. Type a word or your name. Experiment with different fonts, font sizes and colours. Blow up the letter on the page or create repeating patterns. Print your text composition on an A4 paper, cut and paste and make new images out of the new shapes they form. You can also scan and photocopy your designs to get interesting abstract textures and shapes. Have fun!
